Care

A handloom saree asks for less than you would think, and rewards it.

Rest it folded, and refold it twice a year. A fold held too long presses a crease into the zari that will not come out. Store it away from direct light, wrapped in muslin rather than plastic.

Dry clean silk and zari work. Hand-wash cotton and khadi in cold water, alone, and dry flat in shade. Iron on the reverse on a low setting, with a cotton cloth between the iron and any zari.

A saree that has travelled to reach you may arrive with the fold-lines of its journey still in the cloth. These are not flaws. A day on a padded hanger, out of direct sun, settles them.
